Grounded ~ Encouraging ~ Soulful
Shelley has been a part of the studio since day one. After years of dedication and commitment to her practice, she embarked on the first teacher training program we hosted, and immediately found her way on our regular class schedule. As a yoga teacher, Shelley has grown by leaps and bounds, and her artistic nature truly comes out in her teaching. Her classes are nourishing and refreshing, supportive and warm. We are so fortunate to have Shelley as an important member of our Freeport Yoga family.
This summer, you can practice with Shelley every Tuesday at LLBean’s Yoga in the Park series while the regular 8am studio classes take a seasonal hiatus. If you’re one of the many who look forward to her morning Yin Yoga class, don’t worry . . they’ll be back on the schedule this September.
And now, here’s a little more about Shelley, in her words . . .
“Whether teaching slow flow, vinyasa, or yin yoga, I aim to provide enough structure within my class so that the student feels grounded and strong in their pose. Once given that foundational support each student may then safely explore their individual range of motion, breath, or thought patterns. I encourage attention to each individual’s experience on the mat, but also enjoy guiding the group to connect. Teasing out threads of a moment where we can breathe, flow, and even be silent together.”
My yoga teaching and practice also inspire my art. I am a visual artist with a background in sculpture and fiber art. I use layers of materials to create textural pieces that are almost abstract. My images reflect what I feel is the essence of a yoga pose, a flower or an animal.
I am grateful to have found FYC before the doors even opened and that I have been able to watch this warm and supportive community grow. I look forward to welcoming more practitioners, continuing to teach and practice yoga, and sharing my art pieces within this welcoming studio space.
